Progress with UNAM

Also: "Sponsor" a child, send a laptop, and more

So, the plan to start a bursary (scholarship) program at UNAM is coming along well. The bursary officer has been in contact with us and has explained some of the details that go into starting a scholarship at the university, which is fortunately quite simple. As we make some of the key decisions that are involved, we will make updates to the website to reflect our progress.

In other news, we're gearing up for a new initiative that we're pretty excited about. The idea is basically to offer interested donors the opportunity to "sponsor" a child by sending supplies directly to the village where that child lives. These supplies could be anything -- toys, clothes, books, school supplies, whatever -- and will be distributed by trustworthy individuals on the ground, either volunteers or Namibian teachers we know personally.

If you're interested in becoming a sponsor right away, you can certainly send us an e-mail and let us know what sort of items you want to send; we will in turn give you some more details about becoming a sponsor and will do what we can to match you with a child who could greatly benefit from your contributions.

Otherwise, we will be making a significant update to the website in the near future to provide visitors with the ability to create an account on namibiandreams.org, get more information about sponsoring a child, and even (down the road) view pictures and status updates regarding their sponsored child.

In a somewhat related effort, we are also now accepting donations of used laptops/netbooks, which we will be shipping to Namibia to be used in computer labs and libraries. If you have any old laptops which you're no longer using and you would like to send to Namibia, or you know someone else who does, please let us know!
